Fintech Lab

Terms of Service

Effective 2026-05-18. Last updated 2026-05-18.

What this is

Fintech Lab is an educational platform that teaches double-entry accounting and engineering patterns for fintech engineers. By creating an account or using the service you agree to these terms.

What we provide

We provide interactive lessons, replayable incidents, an in-browser sandbox ledger, daily drills, and tools to track your progress through the curriculum. The service is provided free of charge for personal educational use.

What you agree to

  • You will not attempt to disrupt, attack, or reverse-engineer the service, or use it to attack third parties.
  • You will not use the service to store or transmit illegal content, harassment, spam, or content that infringes third-party rights.
  • You are responsible for keeping your account credentials secure. If you sign in with GitHub, the same expectation applies to your GitHub account.
  • You will not impersonate other users or misrepresent your affiliation with any person or organisation in discussion threads.

Intellectual property

The Fintech Lab curriculum, codebase, copy, illustrations, and interactive components are owned by the platform operator and licensed to you for personal educational use only. You may quote short excerpts with attribution for review or commentary purposes. You may not redistribute the curriculum or use it to train models without prior written permission.

Content YOU post (journal entries in your sandbox, discussion comments) belongs to you. By posting a discussion comment you grant us a non-exclusive licence to display it to other signed-in users for as long as your account is active. Deleting a comment or deleting your account revokes that licence.

Educational content disclaimer

The lessons, code examples, and incident scenarios on Fintech Lab are for educational purposes. They are not financial, legal, or compliance advice. Do not deploy code examples to production systems without independent review by a qualified engineer and, where relevant, a qualified accountant or compliance officer.

Service availability

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee the service will be uninterrupted or error-free. We may suspend, modify, or discontinue any part of the service at any time. If we shut the platform down permanently, we will give you at least 30 days notice and a way to export your sandbox and learning data.

Account termination

You may delete your account at any time from your account settings. We may suspend or terminate accounts that violate these terms; where we do so without an obvious cause we will give you a written reason and a reasonable opportunity to appeal.

Limitation of liability

To the maximum extent permitted by law, Fintech Lab and its operators are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the service, and our total liability for any direct damages is capped at the greater of (a) the amount you have paid us in the past twelve months (zero, given the service is free) or (b) £100.

Governing law and dispute resolution

These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any dispute arising out of or relating to these terms will be submitted to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales, except that we may seek injunctive relief in any court of competent jurisdiction to protect our intellectual property.

Nothing in these terms limits any non-waivable rights you may have as a consumer under the laws of your country of residence. If a mandatory local-consumer rule conflicts with these terms, the local rule applies to you to the extent of that conflict.

Changes

We may update these terms over time. Material changes will be highlighted on the site for at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after a change constitutes acceptance of the new terms.
